Volunteering in culture - technical assistant needed!

Activity description

Our NGO focuses on art, culture and event management in Žilina. We are running two special culture venues . One in a former Synagogue designed in Peter Behrens and the other in an old but still functioning train station. For this particular project we are searching for one more volunteer who would become a part of our technical team. Experience are welcomed but our team will gladly teach you! Our volunteers are involved in all processes related to everyday operation. They sell tickets before the events, they distribute posters, prepare guest rooms or catering for artists. Other activities depend on mutual discussion and on the individual's preferences, background and profile. During your stay in our organisation, you can gain unique experience for people who would like to continue working in the cultural field.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

You will be accommodated in your own room in a house with other ESC volunteers. The house is located in the city center, a few minutes from both of our venues. Everything related to your activities is within walking distance, but we also provide bikes in case you'd like to use them. Each volunteer gets 360€ monthly for food and pocket money. You can cook at the house, the big kitchen is suitable for eating together. The travelling costs are covered fully.

Training during the activity

We share our knowledge within the team. We constantly teach each other and we permanently learn from each other - this principle applies to ESC volunteers as well. In the starting period, you will be introduced into the work of every crew member, so you can understand who does what and how. This enables you to decide what you want to focus on more and what activity and skill you want to develop or grow. We have trust in the volunteers that they can learn by practice and give them the tools and support needed to develop your interests and desires.

Participant profile

You should be an independent, flexible and open thinking person who is eager to see how an NGO funded cultural centres operate. You don't need to be an expert in either the field of photography or technical setup, a basic understanding or experience is way more than enough and everything else will be provided by our experienced team, mainly made up of ex-ESC volunteers themselves, so a mutual understanding is a must and a given.
